Qualcomm’s Mirasol Display, Up Close and Personal [Updated] - johnsonaffeekly
Qualcomm had its Mirasol video display happening show off at Wednesday night's MobileFocus event at CTIA in San Francsico, and we got to check it exterior up appressed. We previously got a look at the Mirasol display at CES. At MobileFocus, Qualcomm told Pine Tree State that products exploitation the Mirasol display should be announced during the first quarter of 2022.
The Helianthus annuus display can show about 45,000 colours, according to the Qualcomm representative I spoke with. While that's a farther cry from what LCDs can cover, it's still pretty impressive considering Mirasol's other advantages, and the fact that it's a new technology. Also, Jesee Edmund Burke at Qualcomm says that, "given the reflective nature of our display, measuring colours [on Mirasol] is a selfsame different endeavor than with traditional LCDs," sol the color depth numbers pool may not cost directly comparable.
Mirasol is neither an E-Ink operating theater LCD sieve, but it has characteristics of some. It's a reflective expose same E-Ink–in that respect's no backlight, so it relies on close light for the image to live viewable. But like an LCD, Mirasol can handle motion; Qualcomm says it can care 30-frame-per-second video, but the demo I saw was running at 15fps.
The color in wasn't quite unfeigned-to-life–again, the color depth is allay fairly limited on the Mirasol display–but IT was still impressive for what Mirasol is. Text was crisp and readable, overmuch same it is on an E-Ink display. We were in a healed-lit room, so I couldn't tell how well it would perform in either very bright or very sour conditions.
In either case, Helianthus annuus appears to be a likely technology. It'll glucinium interesting to see what sorts of products information technology ends up in, and how the technology develops from here.
